Module 1 – Reproduce and trace the boot

Page 1 of 3 · About 15 minutes per lesson, including practice.

Prepare a reproducible boot experiment

15-minute session: read for 3 minutes, trace for 3, experiment for 7, and complete the check for 2. Spend longer whenever you need.

Use the README’s supported Ubuntu x86-64 environment and official packages. Record the commit and compiler versions before building. make run is a host executable; make boot-test builds a BIOS ISO and runs QEMU. Package installation is setup work before this 15-minute lesson.

Your experiment

Run make boot-test and save its output. Record host ISA, QEMU machine, guest CPU count, and memory. Do not label an untested physical machine as supported.

Practice and evidence

Keep three notes: your prediction, the actual result, and why they match or differ. The completion check grades understanding; the practice task builds skill.
