Module 1 – Reproduce and trace the boot

Page 2 of 3 · About 15 minutes per lesson, including practice.

Trace the bootloader-to-Ada handoff

15-minute session: read for 3 minutes, trace for 3, experiment for 7, and complete the check for 2. Spend longer whenever you need.

GRUB enters the Multiboot target in 32-bit protected mode. start.S establishes page tables, enables long mode, prepares a stack, and calls agila_boot_main. Ada checks the Multiboot magic before its port tests. A correct entry address and calling convention are part of the boot contract.

Your experiment

Follow _start to long_mode to Boot_Main. Write the required state at each boundary. Explain why simply compiling Ada does not supply a bootloader or stack.

Practice and evidence

Keep three notes: your prediction, the actual result, and why they match or differ. The completion check grades understanding; the practice task builds skill.
