Module 2 – Test claims and extend the kernel

Page 1 of 3 · About 15 minutes per lesson, including practice.

Understand checked host tests and unchecked boot code

15-minute session: read for 3 minutes, trace for 3, experiment for 7, and complete the check for 2. Spend longer whenever you need.

Host tests enable Ada assertions and overflow checks. The minimal boot build uses -gnatp because GNAT exception/runtime support is not ported yet. Explicit Check calls in Boot_Main remain ordinary code. Host tests reduce risk but cannot prove every unchecked execution safe.

Your experiment

Compare ports.gpr with BOOT_FLAGS and the boot compile command. Identify one future exception-handling task and its required failing test.

Practice and evidence

Keep three notes: your prediction, the actual result, and why they match or differ. The completion check grades understanding; the practice task builds skill.
